Building Owners
Building owners have a unique set of questions that require answers related to fire response to protect their buildings and the citizens who live and work in them. Risk management and reduction is key to the longevity of the buildings and the safety of the citizens and residents who will inhabit or work in these structures.
Cost Impact for FARS
As with most building-installed fire safety systems, the cost of air standpipe systems and the on-going testing, certification and maintenance of the system is borne by the building owner.
Inspection, Testing and Maintenance Requirements
Building owners are responsible for inspection, testing, and maintenance of all building-installed fire protection systems to ensure reliability when an emergency occurs. These requirements are set forth in the fire codes for safety reasons.
For the Firefighter Air Replenishment System, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Annex D states that no Certificate of Compliance shall be issued until all approved plans and specifications have been tested, certified, and approved to be in proper working condition to the satisfaction of the local fire department. International Fire Code Appendix L and NFPA specify standards for air quality that must be met to ensure ongoing system reliability.
